Gatid, one of the biggest barrios of Santa Cruz in population and land area, lies in the lakeshore of historical and beautiful Laguna de Bay. Its outlying barrios are Duhat, Bagumbayan and Labuin.
It’s a farming and fishing community. Duck raising is now a second industry of the barrio.
Varied legends and myths were told and handed from mouth to mouth. Accordingly, the former named Gatid was “ Hatid “. The people used to bring back and forth the pieces of baggages from the seashore to the barrio proper. The place was first visited by Chinese traders.
The excavation of antique wares at Sitio Butuan in 1966 is a proven fact that the Chinese were the early foreign traders in this barrio.
